Install macOS on your NVIDIA PC
Five steps, about 30 minutes — most of it waiting. Your Windows install is left exactly as it is; macOS goes on its own drive or stick. If anything stops, the Fix it page lists every known message, and the Discord is there to help.
What you need
- A desktop or laptop with an NVIDIA GTX 16 or RTX 20–50 card — see what's booting.
- A USB stick, 16 GB or larger (it gets erased).
- Windows, to build the stick with 1401. Your Windows stays as it is.
1 · Check your PC
Open 1401 for Windows and press Check this PC. It reads your card, CPU and board and tells you whether they are supported. No Windows tools on the PC yet? Run the 1401 Probe from a stick instead, and it reports the same thing.
2 · Download
From Downloads, get 1401 for Windows. You do not need to download macOS separately — 1401 fetches the installer itself, straight from Apple, in the next step.
3 · Make the install stick
Plug in the USB stick, open 1401, and press Build. It picks the right startup settings for your exact PC, downloads and verifies the macOS image, and writes the stick. When it finishes, that stick is your macOS installer.
4 · Boot macOS and install
Restart and open the boot menu — usually F11, F12 or Esc (1401 tells you which) — and pick the stick. Choose Install macOS and follow Apple's installer; install to a spare drive, or make room in Disk Utility. The PC restarts a few times: keep choosing the stick until macOS reaches the desktop for the first time.
5 · Install the NVIDIA driver
On the macOS desktop, open the 1401 Mac app and press Install driver. Restart when it asks. Your NVIDIA card now runs with full Metal acceleration — graphics, video and games. That is it: you have a Nullintosh.
